Blaydon Cemetery, Blaydon.

Renewal of the main front doors to the church..jpg History

Opened in 1873. In the cemetery is the grave and a statue of one of the greatest reformers in Blaydon's annals. He was Tommy Ramsey who was one of the founders of the Durham Miners' Association. He died in 1873. His statue shows him with a roll of handbills and the rattle which he used to call miners to his meetings.

Project

This work involved the complete replacement of the main roof to the church, dry rot had taken a hold within the roof area and this needed some timber replacement and timber treatment to restore the roof areas.

The extent of the dry rot reached the front doors and after careful consideration it was decided that there was only one thing to do. The rot was so serious that the doors were replaced and all existing iron mongery was salvaged, cleaned up and re-used on the new doors, and then given a new coat of paint

Client: Gateshead Council.
